IBD Registry key partner in the new HDR-funded data research hub for IBD research

Sep 12, 2019

A £5m grant has been awarded by Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) to establish a health data research hub for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The IBD hub, to be known as Gut Reaction – The Health Data Research Hub for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, will bring together key and separate data assets in a unified research-enabled framework that will provide researchers with the linked data and information they need to transform our understanding of inflammatory bowel disease and drive improvements in diagnosis and treatment. The IBD Registry is delighted and proud to be a key partner in this ground-breaking initiative, working together with NIHR Bioresource and other partners including Crohn’s and Colitis UK, Welcome Sanger, AIMES, Privitar and Microsoft.

Gut Reaction – The Health Data Research Hub for Inflammatory Bowel Disease will be based at Cambridge, and is one of seven hubs set up across the UK to speed up research for new medicines and treatments, support quicker diagnoses and potentially save lives. The Hub will bring together a wide set of data assets, including those of the IBD Registry (58,000 clinical IBD patient records collected by 85 NHS Trusts) and NIHR Bioresource (25,000 IBD patients across 90+ NHS Trusts), in a secure, protected and research-accessible data delivery framework.
