The government have announced a national lockdown for England, starting on Thursday 5th November 2020, which includes specific guidance for clinically vulnerable people in England.   There are different rules for the four nations: the new national restrictions for England can be read here .

There is additional specific guidance for people in England who have been identified by the Government as clinically extremely vulnerable .If you are in England and have been identified by the Government as clinically extremely vulnerable, the guidance says you will previously have received a letter from the NHS or from your GP telling you this.

The guidance also says that adults on immunosuppression therapies sufficient to significantly increase risk of infection are automatically deemed clinically extremely vulnerable.  You may not have received a letter previously due to the method used by the Government to work out.  The method is published by the NHS and notes that it does not include drugs prescribed by hospitals, which is how many of the treatments for IBD are prescribed.

The IBD Registry’s COVID-19 IBD Risk Tool has these higher risk medications ‘built-in’ and is based on the British Society of Gastroenterology’s Risk Grid for IBD.  The IBD Risk Tool allows you to self-assess your risk, giving you your COVID-19 IBD risk level at the end. Even if you have used our Risk Tool before, remember that your risk level may have changed.  You can do the Tool’s self-assessment as many times as you like.

If you want further information on understanding your risk of COVID-19 see the Crohn’s & Colitis website’s COVID-19 pages.
