Join us as our new Projects & Operations Manager
About the opportunity
The IBD Registry is the first and largest repository of UK IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) data. There are approx. 500,000 people in the UK with IBD, a chronic disease which can be debilitating, difficult to manage and is still not well understood. Our mission is to provide better understanding based on data, to improve care of and treatments for patients, better information for clinicians and other stakeholders, with the aim throughout of improving outcomes for patients. We are an independent not-for-profit company, co-owned by the British Society of Gastroenterology, the Royal College of Physicians and the patient organisation Crohn’s and Colitis UK. Although we are a small organisation, we play a big role in improving people’s lives. We work directly with hospitals, doctors and nurses across the UK; with drug studies, with the NHS, as well as with key Universities in the fields of biostatistics and data analytics. We are deeply involved in the fast-moving and exciting area of health data, and the technologies that underpin and transform that data.
Our Projects & Operations Manager role is an exciting new role that reflects our recent growth and the need that we now have for more formalised project and operational management in support of the next phase of our growth. Key in this is the new £5M Hub project, where we need strong project management in place to reflect our position as a critical partner in this complex data access project. In addition to this, we have other new projects starting (and expect to have on an ongoing basis), and the successful candidate for this role will play a key role in defining and formalising these to ensure their successful start and then delivery. These projects add to our ongoing ‘business as usual’ services, and the Projects & Operations Manager leads on maintaining and coordinating the plans for all of these, supporting the Registry team managers for delivery and supporting the CEO in ensuring that they do so. Our business is health data, including personal patient data, and so strong and demonstrated information governance is key in all that we do. The Projects & Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring that we are compliant, up to date and seeking improvements on an ongoing basis to ensure we are exemplar in this critical area. This role works closely with the CEO, supporting in strategic development, and taking delegated responsibility for team management.
Our ideal candidate has a strong relevant academic background with demonstrable professional experience gained in a formal project management environment, ideally in the health or pharmaceutical sector. We are a national organisation, active with hospitals and healthcare professionals across the UK, but still only a small company ‘behind the scenes’ –which means that this is a real opportunity to be involved across the whole spectrum in health data management. This will be a truly rewarding move for a candidate with both the relevant background coupled with the ability to learn fast and come on board quickly with what is one of the leading edge projects in health data curation today.
Your experience will include a track record in initiating, planning and managing projects. A formal project management qualification or training would be beneficial (PMI, APM, PRINCE2, Agile) and demonstrable understanding of project concepts such as risk logs/RAID, RACI, GANNT charts and time-boxing. You will be focused, with demonstrable experience in managing and supporting staff to build the team and deliver results on time.
